Booking Information

Description: A multimedia theatre performance followed by a hands-on creative workshop. During the workshop children are invited to create loose part designs inspired by the show. These designs can be documented as photographs by school staff or parents. All loose parts are returned to The SketchCan Caravan after the workshop.

Audience: The performance and creative workshop is suitable for all children aged 2-8 years.

Duration: The performance lasts 30 minutes and concludes with an invitation to take part in the open-ended workshop which follows immediately after the show. Time allocated for the workshop is 30 minutes.

Seating: The children sit close to the theatre set on a floor mat provided by us. We ask the venue to supply enough chairs for accompanying adults.

Space: The Monster Making Machine requires a clear, open floor space. The minimum room size would be 4m x 7m – this is suitable for a small audience (max 30 children).  A school or community hall is required for larger audiences (up to 60 children).

Numbers: We recommend 30 children per session to optimise 1-to-1 support and interaction during the workshop. However, we can accommodate up to 60 children working in pairs. During the workshop the children take a bag of cardboard shapes and a design board, then find a space on the floor in front of the set or around the room/hall where they create their own designs inspired by the show. Participants also have access to the drawers in the theatre set where they can select more shapes for their designs.

Time: We need 30 minutes to set-up before the performance start time, 1 hour for the show/workshop and 30 minutes for take-down after the workshop. If we are performing more than one show in the same venue on the same day, we require at least 30 minutes to reset the resources and take a break between sessions.

Power: 1x electric power socket (ceiling lights and heating if necessary).

Access: Our van is 3m high x 4.6m long (medium length Mercedes Sprinter). We need to load/unload the theatre set and workshop equipment close to the venue entrance before parking. If the performance/workshop space is above ground level we need access to a lift.

Availability: During term time we offer weekday shows to preschools, infant classes, specialist schools and community playgroups. At weekends and during holidays we are available to visit community/arts venues/festivals for parent and child audiences.
